How to Clean Memory Foam and Cat Urine

When your cat decides to urinate on your new memory foam mattress this is not only a mess you have to clean up but a mess that is far from easy to clean up. When cat urine soaks through a memory foam mattress unfortunately it is not just sitting on the surface waiting to be absorbed, the memory foam of the mattress immediately absorbs the urine and within seconds the excess urine has been absorbed into the deep and many layers of a memory foam mattress. This can be impossible to clean at this stage and is the perfect setting for expansion of bacteria mould and the growth of other unpleasant odours.

If you catch it right away you will want to immediately begin blotting the extra urine with an absorbent and soft cloth. Then you will want to spray on any cat urine remover that states it is used for odour elimination as well. You should always have one of these cleansing solutions on hand for these types of accidents that can happen from time to time. After following the directions of the cleaning agent exactly you will want to continue blotting and drying the area as much as possible because a urinated soaked mattress is not going to be cleaned and fresh until it is dry.

Vinegar is a great home remedy that works well on memory foam mattresses. You saturate the entire area with white vinegar and blot until no more cat urine can be absorbed from the mattress. You then cover the area with baking soda which is going to eliminate and neutralize the odours and should be left overnight. In the morning you should be able to vacuum the excess baking soda and smell nothing but a clean and fresh memory foam mattress.

On the other hand if you are at work and come home to a memory foam mattress that has been urinated on, you may have to say good bye to that mattress. If it has had the opportunity to soak into the memory foam all day than there is no way to clean it and the bacteria and odours are only going to concentrate and worsen and worsen the longer they have time to ferment. Memory foam and cat urine is a bad combination and one you hope to never experience. Without fast acting clean up time, your memory foam mattress will be ruined within minutes.
